Wanda Mae Warden

Wanda Mae Lewallen born July 5, 1945, in Winters, Texas, and grew up in Abilene, Texas. Wanda was preceded in death by her parents Bennie Amos & Stella Mae Lewallen. Married to the late Larry James McKean, and late AC (Sonny) Warden.

Wanda attended all 12 years at Wylie School from August 1951 – May 1963, graduating from Wylie High School in 1963. Attending colleges at Draughons Business, Gails Business, Cisco Jr. College, Texas State Technical, receiving 2 Associate Degree in Business.

Wanda had a love for animals growing up on the farm with her parents and brother. Her love for her dog Bandit of 15 yrs. Her hobbies included 4-H, Piano, Sewing, Cooking, Crochet, Coloring, Painting and Diamond Art. Careers over the years included Clarks Discount, Majestic Theater, Jackson/Hefley’s Pharmacy 1959, Gibson’s Dept Store, Thornton’s Dept Store, Timex and Abilene Police Dept. 1963 working Booking and Switchboard. Wanda retired with Abilene State School of 19 years in 1994 as a Clerk II.

Momma was diagnosed with Breast Cancer February 14, 2003 as well as Tongue Cancer in 2020. Momma put up the fight, strong will and bravery to beat both and stay in remission.

Grandchildren, Cody Lee Warden(son/grandson) (Rebecca) Sweetwater, TX, Whitley Mae Warden Berain Hamby, TX, Grant James McKean Austin, TX, Justin Kalobe Stafford (Victoria) Denham Springs, LA, Larissa Reann Burks (Danny) Hamby, TX, Kaylea Michelle Burks (Garrett) Abilene, TX, Jacey Danae Burks (Jared) Abilene, TX, Dustina Lee Ann Claxton (Colton) Merkel, TX.

Great Grandchildren, Gavin Noel Perez, Brinlee Shay Newlun, Ivynn Alan Berain, Thurston (Rooster) Glenn Alan Newlun, Acelynn Mae Berain, Haizlie Michelle Cochran, Easton Bennie Newlun, Amaryss Judith Warden-Hendershot, Drew Alan Cochran, Achilleia Danae Jackson. Two expecting on the way.

A visitation for Wanda will be held Friday, March 21, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Highway 277 South, Abilene, TX 79606.
