It is sad to recognize anniversaries like this.  However, it brightens my heart when I think of all the fine memories of Vern.  I did not know him for that long - perhaps only 10 or 12 years but you could not help be drawn to the man for his love of music and history.  He was a great help at Churchill providing music for us although I think that sometimes he could have done without the sermon that he received for his efforts!  After a sometimes tiresome choir practice, Vern would often show up with a long joke written out to entertain us all with.  The jokes were always tasteful but I'm glad he never read them in church!  Now that I have left the Woodside area I reminisce about many things and Vern remains, and will always remain, one of the better memories that I have.

My sincerest condolences to the Denny family.  I met Vern in my first few days at Dufferin Peel, he always had a story and a chuckle.  I was fortunate to work with him again at Laidlaw, he was very special. 

This is a very sad day for me and all I can do is offer some meager condolences for the loss of Vern.  I don't remember when I first met him but I saw him almost every Monday night after choir practice at Churchill.  I always thought Marie was unfair making him come to practice after 8pm but I am sure he enjoyed making music.  Occasionally he would bring some printed joke with him that often seemed so long and drawn out but the punch line was always worth it.  We shared an interest in local history.  He gave me more praise for my tenor voice than I deserved but it meant a great deal to me to know that I could at least be heard within the choir so that the music would sound better.  He told me he loved the tone of the clarinet after I played The Last Post at a Remembrance Day practice when John Duenk was unable to.  This gave me the courage to play solo which I was not comfortable doing.  I loved watching him switch from guitar to mandolin to accordion during church services while sitting in the choir loft.  It was always a pleasure to have him join us at Churchill for services and he did it often without any reservation.  I have left the Acton area now after 20 some odd years there but a lot of people made a lasting impression on me while I was there and Vern was certainly one of them. 

I'll always remember Vern's train set from a long time ago when I was a little kid, the big smile..and of course, the music by the river at the family reunion. Grace, Sophia and I would like to offer our deepest condolences to the Denny family.

I did not know Vern for very long but he was one great guy. Extremley helpful and always in a jovial mood. He went the extra distance to help me. My sincerest condolences to the family. I am not able to get to pay my respects due to a death in my immediate family.
