 On behalf of the Gold family (Kenny, David, Carol, Val and Wendy) I would like to express our deepest condolences to Lindsay’s family and friends.  As well, I know that if my parents were still with us, they too would share their grief as they loved and admired Lindsay all their lives.  When my brother’s son Gabriel was born, he gave him the middle name Lindsay with great pride.   Lindsay and I shared the same birthday (year and date) and were close from Algonquin school until I left for a teaching job in Winnipeg and he moved to Toronto.  We shared many adventures together and he taught me a great deal in life.  I have so many memories from childhood and from after the accident that it would be impossible to share them all, but I’ll try to pick a few that stick out.  I remember Lindsay’s unique style of hockey; skating fast and almost out of control, twisting his body this way and that at any cost to get to the puck before any body else. I remember flash cards in grade two; everybody would give up when Lindsay stood up because you couldn’t beat him!  I remember the first band we had in Lorne’s basement and Lindsay being the singer (there is a photo somewhere)!  I remember when he learnt to play guitar and would strum away in the park for hours.  Later, after the accident, I recall how Lindsay’s zest for life was not diminished.  If there was a good time to be had Lindsay was on it, or he was going to make it happen!  I remember one night carrying Lindsay on my back up a narrow flight of stairs to a party somewhere in the plateau ( I don’t know how, but it happened)!    During my last year in Montreal, I stayed with Lindsay on Quesnel street.  It opened my eyes to how difficult it was for Lindsay.  Everything was a huge challenge requiring patience and strength that most of us can’t imagine.  We visited Lindsay and Lynn at their home in Don Mills ten years ago, and that was the last time I saw him.  I spoke with Lindsay last fall when he was organizing a reunion with many of you, which was finally cancelled.    Fortunately, my sister Carol was able to be at the service and reception in Toronto.  Unfortunately I can’t be in Montreal on Wednesday night, but I’m with you all in spirit.  Lindsay’s soul was huge and touched us all for the better.  We will miss him.

Lindsay and I worked together at CP for a few years.  I always remember Lindsay in two ways.  First, he gave it to you straight, said what was on his mind, asked direct questions, and probed to understand the truth.  Second, he almost had time for people - stopped to say hi, greeted people with respect, and had a good sense of humour.  I hadn't seen Lindsay for many years after I left CP in 2000, but met Lindsay in 2010 when I discovered that an HP office I frequented was near Lindsay's office in downtown Toronto.  I was very pleased to see him again.  I was shocked at the news of his passing, and will miss him.  

I first met Lindsay in 2010 when my friend Pete and I visited Lindsay at his condo. Lindsay had a lively spirit that one seldom experiences in life. His positive energy, love of laughter, and his vibrant personality filled the room. Although I only met Lindsay a few times, I will miss his smile, laughter and love of life.  

I will always remember Lindsay for his courage, strength and honesty. 
I will miss him.  

My heart aches with such great sorrow.
 


We shall meet again one day soon.
Then our hearts will overflow with joy.

We shall dance, and dance, and dance.
At last, free of all of our encumbrances of this earthly world.

As far as the eyecan travel from where I stand in th sun  Ive got my name on the things I see and I own them everyone.   Ive got my name on the singing birds that mate when spring is new .  But I won't be selfish with all these things . I'll share them friend with you..   There is no deed to the river. THer is no lock to the sea .Not all the power in all the world. Can take their joy from me.    Ther is no fence round the heavens.  No vault holds the sunset's gold.  The earth is mine and the heavens are mine .  Till all the suns grow cold.   The stars are my thousand jewels and life is my bread and wine.  And all that I see was made for me.  And all that I love is mine          Sail on , my darling LIndsay Ride the big wave. I first met Lindsay after his accident in 1983. I was a demonstrator in the physics lab at Concordia University and Lindsay had just embarked on his academic career. We became good friends and I spent many an evening at his apartment on Quesnel St. in St. Henri. He never complained about his circumstance and he was always quick with a joke and he enjoyed being challenged philosophically and academically. We also enjoyed going out on the town and he was always an awesome "wingman" as he would strike up a conversation with anyone. We went to several hockey games and we never lost touch. I moved back to Toronto in 1989 and Lindsay soon followed.

We kept our friendship going over the last 28 years and I have been in regular touch by phone and visit. I had just spoken with Lindz the week prior to his passing. We had many business discussions over my endeavors and I always relied on him as a sounding board and his viewpoint always proved to be valuable: he saw the world very differently than I and this provided for some very interesting conversations.

He (and Lynn) supported me during some difficult times and I stayed with them for a period of time at Plateau Crescent in the summer of 2001. Lindsay was a great role model for my kids as he was always positive and optimistic. We enjoyed many a sunny afternoon and he was fond of my BBQ cooking ability!

It is difficult to come to terms with the sudden passing of someone that has been a part of my life for such a long time...

I will miss him greatly. 

It was many years ago that I last saw Lindsay,Vanessa,Mark,Tara and Aunt Margaret but I do have fond memories of all of you. I'm very sorry to hear of Lindsay's passing and the entire family has my deepest sympathies. 

I knew Lindsay from Town of Mount Royal High School(MRHS).I had not seen Lindsay since those days ,however I did hear about his terrible accident.It was horrifying to me because all through high school Lindsay was the most agile,active,energetic,quick,sportive and all around athletic guys that I ever knew ,He was the kind of guy you wanted on your team ,I remember him as always being happy ,with a contagious smile.I am so sad to hear of his passing ,my condolences to the Family for this terrible loss.
   

Dearest Lindsay,

So many have travelled with you over time, some journeys short, others long – my reflections are from June 1982 to June 2006. 

You were a remarkably intelligent, strong willed, free-spirited man who was always eager to engage in conversation with young and old wherever you went and whatever the circumstances. Your interactions ranged from simple playfulness with children, to lengthy philosophical conversation tackling any realm, to deep, passionate debate with those equally strong and brave enough to duel with one of the best. In times of solitude, you reflected on personal issues and challenges, and despite moments of deep hardship, you always rose to the occasion to value life’s brief, single moments, be it good or bad, because we only get one chance. In thinking of you, there are many who envision your tough, solid fortitude but do they know that you would be the first to weep when watching the spiritual experiences of others or when seeing life’s hardships, tragedies and triumphs of those less fortunate?

If you knew that February 12, 2011 would be the end of your time here, there would be a lot that you would have wanted to complete. Most importantly, you would have embraced all those who have helped and supported you in your lifetime, particularly over the last 30 years. You would have wanted your family to know just how much you loved them, all the while being fully aware that, despite being so gifted in speech, you could never completely pay justice to those sentiments. 

Your road along life’s path here on earth may have ended, but do those whose life you have touched truly believe that you are gone? When they see the sun shining or feel the sweltering heat, they will feel your presence. Any time they are standing by a body of water, they will not see you by the edge of the wet sand but rather in the far distance where the sky and the water meet. The next time they pass a small child as they go about their day, and take a moment to smile, you are there. As they walk along a path and come across a rose, and stop to take hold of its beauty and scent, they will feel you there. As they look into the dark, deepening, stormy sky, with the lightening and the thunder, you are there. If they witness the quiet luminescence of the flowers on a yellow Butterfly Magnolia tree at dusk in spring time, they will find your spirit. The next time they see a Raven and hear its screech, you are greeting them.

I can’t believe Lindsay is gone. I will miss our deep discussions on all of life’s topics, his wit, charm, humour and most of all his friendship.  One of Lindsay’s great desires was to travel. We spent hours going through pictures of my trips and places that I had been and he wanted to go. We were waiting for spring and the warmer weather so that he could come and see my new house, from the outside anyway, since it wasn’t accessible and then go and try out a neighbourhood restaurant as he loved to do. I’m sorry we waited. I will miss him. My heartfelt condolences to all of his friends and family.

I knew Lindsay from Algonquin School, Dakin Park and MRHS. Way back in the 70's in Mount Royal.  We played baseball and ball hockey (shinny) together.  I am profoundly sad to learn that he has passed away at such a young age.  I know his challenges in life were immense.  I know his spirit was highly resilient and he rose to meet his challenges.  I admired him.  I remember his poetry.  I remember his exceptionally great reflexes and instincts in sports.  I remember his philosophy, his laugh, and his broad smile.  He saw things with a rare clarity.  He influenced more people than I expect he ever knew about.  At his bedside, after his spinal cord accident, I felt a helplessness beyond anything before or since.  My knees buckled and my lungs screamed for air.  It is not up to me to judge what is fair in this life, and what isn't.  But I can comment here with complete clarity, the kind he was known to wield, that Lindsay was, is, and will always be one of the greatest examples of courage I ever witnessed.

To his family and his many, many admirers, I feel your loss and wish you faith, peace and love in managing his sudden absence.

It is with deep sadness that I learned of Lindz' passing. I spelled his name that way because that is how he spelled it when we played games growing up together in Town of Mount Royal. He was a fantastic friend to have. We shared a lot of smiles and laughter. He was so good at everything! I shall really miss him. My deepest sympathies go to his family at this time of loss.
