Adele Horn, 97, of Richfield, Ohio, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2025. Originally from Italy, she emigrated as a young child to the US with her mother and two of her sisters to make a new home with her father who had become a citizen.
After high school, Adele got a job at Higbee’s in downtown Cleveland to help support her 4 younger brothers and sisters following the sudden death of their father. Adele met her late husband, Chuck, while both were working at Higbee’s. To Chuck, it was “love at first sight”; however, it took a while before Adele caught on to his constant attention. Soon thereafter, they married and she became his devoted wife. In the 1950’s, Chuck and Adele built a small house in Richfield where they raised their 4 children. In those days, before interstates were built, her mother and siblings thought she had moved to the end of the world.
In the 1960’s Adele took a part-time job as a cashier at the local grocery store known at that time as the Country Counter. She developed lifetime friendships with her co-workers. Even after they all retired, the group continued to meet for monthly pot lucks and card games. In later years Adele frequented the Richfield Senior Center for lunch and conversation. She also found joy in simple things like sitting outdoors in the fresh air, reminiscing about the many family gatherings held at her house throughout 65 years of living there.
Adele always treated her sons-in-law and daughter-in-law the same as her own children. She leaves behind Linda and Gary Filipowicz, Sandy and Henry Hauenstein, Sherri and David Young, Gary and Lynnette Horn, along with her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren. All will agree that Adele was a great cook thanks to her special ingredient called love.
The family is thankful for the kind-hearted staff at the Inn at Apple Ridge as well as the compassionate caregivers from Advantage Hospice Company who all tended to Adele’s needs in her final year.
Visitation will be Tuesday, November 4, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by a short service at Rose Hill Funeral Home, 3653 W. Market St., Akron, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Memory of Adele Horn to the Akron Canton Food Bank, www.akroncantonfoodbank.org.
