Beloved son, uncle, cousin and brother; Jerry was born on December 20, 1937 in Akron, Ohio to Offie and Wilhamina (Jacob). He is survived by his brother, Thomas S. Hanna and preceded in death by his sister, Myrna L. Kalail.
As a young man he joined the Army, and was honorably discharged. He graduated from the University of Akron and became a teacher at Akron Public Schools. He loved his profession and students dearly, retiring after 30+ years.
Another deep love was with God. Jerry practiced the Orthodox faith and attended St. George Orthodox Church along with many family and friends. He was part of the choir at the church.
He had many unique interests and hobbies like collecting antiques from the Orient. Having parents from Lebanon he loved Mediterranean foods and some of his favorites were tabouli, hummus and kibbeh. Jerry loved to travel and Hawaii was a favorite destination. A true Ohioan at heart, he loved to watch sports especially the Cleveland Indians!
Lebanese tradition was very important to him and more than anything, Jerry loved his family. His brother Tom, sister Myrna and his parents were the most cherished part of his life. He was especially close with his niece Kelli Cerankowski (Hanna) her husband Todd Cerankowski, and great nephew Dylan Cerankowski; they have been faithfully by his side and caring for him.
He will be missed dearly by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Jerry lived a long, full and happy life. We will cherish all of the beautiful memories we shared together.
The family would like to thank Greenfield Estate for their loving care of Jerry and everyone who has sent their condolences. We appreciate all the love and support.
Memorial contributions in Jerry’s name may be made to St. George Orthodox Church or the VA.
