She was born in Akron on July 24, 1937. She graduated from Kenmore High School and began studies to be a global missionary in Nyack, New York before changing course and moving around the country from Florida to California, then back to Ohio before finally enjoying her sunset years on North Hutchinson Island, Florida. She loved to laugh and sing, babies, fashion, travel and anything her grandkids (actual or honorary) were into—even lacrosse!
Jean’s highest calling and ministry was as a church musician and accompanist on both the organ and piano. Professionally, she worked as a legal secretary to support herself and educate her daughter at Christian schools. Jean also dedicated much of her time and energy to volunteering as an advocate for victims of domestic and sexual abuse through the judicial system and the group Grandparents Against Sexual Predators.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband of almost 38 years, Robert (Bob) Buehrle; parents, Elmer and Dorothy Dearth; brother, Lee Dearth; and sister, Elaine (Ed) Foyle. Her legacy will live on through her daughter, Cynthia Prada; grandsons Kyle, Seth and Grant Curtis; her brother, Jerry (Sandy) Dearth; and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind an extended family that she loved and shared with Bob: daughter, Becky (Patrick) Greenwald; and son, Kipp Buehrle; daughter-in-love, Patty (Jack) Irvin; six grandchildren: Kevin (Sunny) Greenwald, Beth Greenwald, Michael Buehrle, Matthew Buehrle, Lauren (Chris) Junk and Emily (Anthony) Boarman; and six great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Saturday, January 3, at King’s Way Church, 2500 Kingsport Way, Akron, OH 44314, from 10 a.m. to noon, with a service officiated by dear family friend, the Reverend Kelvin Walker, immediately following. Interment will be in the Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Jean’s memory to King’s Way Church or a local battered women’s shelter.
