

Joanne was born on January 14, 1944, in Cleveland to the late Joseph and Inez (Giles) McCune.
She earned her Master’s in Education and Psychology from the University of Akron and dedicated her career to shaping young minds. Joanne held various positions within the Norton City School District, including Director of Special Education and School Psychologist, and eventually retired as the Principal of Norton Primary. Her passion for education and unwavering commitment to her students left a lasting impact on the community.
Beyond her professional achievements, Joanne was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She found joy in spending time with her family, dancing and taking long road trips with her husband during their summer breaks together.
In addition to her parents, Joanne was preceded in death by her brother, Dennis McCune.
She is survived by her beloved husband, James Anderson; her children, Stacey Mayle (Larry Hahn), Terry (Carl) McCrory, and James “Skip” (Sherri) Anderson; eight grandchildren, Josh, Catherine, Isabella, CJ, Caleb, Brittany, Abbey, and Seth; and five great-grandchildren, Veronica, Luther James, Evelyn, Emerie Faye, and Jaidyn Lee. Joanne also leaves behind her cherished siblings, Dan, Ed, Jackie, Joe, Barbara, and Lori, as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 15th, 2025, at Rose Hill Funeral Home, 3653 W. Market St., Akron, Ohio. A funeral service will take place from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM. Joanne will be laid to rest at Rose Hill Burial Park following the service.
