Jon R Short

Our beloved father, husband, brother, and grandfather Jon Ramon Short, born 10-29-1940, went home to be with the Lord after a long illness on February 13th, 2018. He was at home with family at his side at the time of his passing.

He is preceded in death by sister Barbara Brophy.

Jon is survived by his wife Cheryl “Sherri” Short, sister Dell Marcia Blanchard, his four children, Tammy Benjamin (Daryl), Sherrie Cody (James), Jason Short (Stephanie), Jon Short (Heidi). He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Kyler, Kiana, Cameron, Elissa, Brandon, Joshua, Lauren, and Cayden. He also is survived by many other relatives and friends.

Jon Ramon Short was owner/operator of JR. Short’s Marathon. He bought and took over the service station from his father Jon Randolph “Randy” Short. He worked many hours as the owner and operator. He was proud of his business. He remodeled the service station to include a convenience store, car wash, and mechanic service, with many items including 200 various wines, assorted cheeses, and other grocery items. As a retiree, he worked at Orangebrook Country Club and Golf Course as a head starter in Hollywood, Florida. He proudly worked as a mechanic in the cart barn working on golf carts. Basically, whatever needed done he was handy enough to take over the jobs that needed completed. He was very intelligent, resourceful, and very mechanically inclined at what he put his mind to. He was given a very prestigious award for his service to the Orangebrook Country Club, where he was in high demand from fellow employees, guests and customers.

Family will receive friends on Friday, February 16th, from 5 – 7 PM at the Rose Hill Funeral Home 3653 W Market St, Akron, OH 44333; where the Funeral Service will be on Saturday, February 17th at 1:00 PM.
