Joyce and Nick Soranno

Joyce was born on October 15, 1949 in Akron, Ohio to Bill and Jo Proffitt. She graduated from Wadsworth High School in 1968 and attended the University of Akron and received her BS in Education in 1972. Joyce was a gifted teacher who loved her students, teaching at Medina City Schools from 1972-1977. Later she taught at Our Lady of the Elms and Norton City Schools from 1997-2022. She married her “match made in heaven” Nick Soranno on December 23, 1972. Nick and Joyce spent the best days of their lives together and did everything with one another.

She was an avid seamstress, Browns and Ohio State fan, and dog lover. She was active in the PTA, community outreach, and helped to run Soranno Builders. Joyce loved to drive fast in her Corvettes, beat her grandchildren at cards, and give her students a hard time.

She is preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Bill “Billy” Proffitt.

Joyce will be deeply missed by her husband of 50 years, Nick, children, Nick (Claudia) Soranno, Lisa (Len) Alexander, Chris (Amy) Soranno, and Danielle Soranno, grandchildren, Carmen (Elliot) Wagers, Zachariah and Isaiah Alexander, Alexa and Cole Soranno, and Ashley and Aston Yannuzzo, favorite sister-in-law, Diane Proffitt, and nieces and nephews, Scott (Andrea) Proffitt, Jennifer Proffitt, Angela (Tim) Steele, Gina Soranno Smith, Babs (Cuyler) Soranno Costanzo, and Michael (Cindy) Guarnieri, multiple extended nieces, nephews, cousins, and great-grandchildren.

Friends and family may come to call on Saturday, August 13, 2022 from 11-12 p.m. at Rose Hill Funeral Home, 3653 West Market Street. A funeral service will follow at 12 p.m.
