June Agnes Gandy, nee Gaydos of Magnolia Dr. in Seven Hills, Ohio, died Friday, June 23, 2023 at Hospice of Medina County after a short illness. June was born June 1, 1927 in Lisbon, Ohio to Michael and Elizabeth Gaydos. She had three older siblings, Joseph, George, and Margaret, all of whom have preceded her in death.
June was married on June 9, 1951 to C. Wayne Gandy, born November 21, 1926 in East Palestine, Ohio, after Wayne had been discharged from the US Army, and June had graduated from Nurses Training in Salem, Ohio as a registered nurse. June and Wayne were married for 48 years until his death on May 30, 1999.
Not long after their marriage they moved to Cleveland, Ohio in search of greater employment opportunities, as so many of their generation have done. June worked in Private Duty nursing, Emergency Medicine at Deaconess Hospital, and several others before landing at General Motors where she took a position as an Industrial Nurse eventually rising to the position of Department Head. Family camping, traveling, and the arts were enjoyed regularly when their children were young. June was a Camp Fire Girl leader and provided endless hours of fun for the girls in her troupe.
June and Wayne were avid square dancers and after retirement, spent many years traveling about the country in their motorhome dancing, enjoying friends and family, and seeing the country at their leisure. They eventually purchased a home in Lee Plantation, a small gated community in Fort Myers, Florida, where they enjoyed an active social life and volunteered at numerous venues. June was affectionately known as the “Sandwich Lady” since she worked part time making custom sandwiches to order. One of her customers told us he would only get his sandwiches from her because she “made them with love.” When she made a sandwich with butter and condiments, she made sure that they always went to the very edges of the bread so that her work was the best she could possibly do. A hallmark of her life. She also volunteered at the Gift Shop in Lee Memorial Hospital for 20 years, as well as the Sheriff’s Office were she received several awards for her service. Both June and Wayne worked tirelessly for Habitat for Humanity, and still found time for tennis, hosting large gatherings, and opening their home to family.
June and Wayne are survived by their daughters, Lisa Marie and Marybeth, five grandchildren, June’s beloved niece and nephew, Pat and Jim (and their families.) She will be forever remembered for her spirit, passion, and giving heart.
A memorial service will be announced.
