

Lois Jean Hamilton "Jeannie", age 88, of Akron, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on April 18, 2025. She was born on December 1, 1936, in Akron, Ohio. Jeannie lived most her life in Akron except for the six years she traveled with her husband Bart who was in the AirForce.
Jeannie loved music and began playing saxophone at age 10. She was still playing at age 88 with the Summit County Metro Parks Ensemble. Her music degree from the University of Akron gave her the ability in her volunteer work to direct children's choirs, the Tallmadge United Methodist church chancel choir for 20 years, North Hill Mother Singers for 35 years and the Patterson Park Singin' Seniors for 50 years. She was active with the Children's Concert Society since the 1970s. She hosted a Christmas Caroling Party at her home from 1964 - 2024.
Other volunteer activities include serving on PTAs for Bettes Elementary, Jennings Junior High and North High School. She was a "Friendly Visitor" for Family Services and baked birthday cakes for the children's home. She led many Bible Studies in her home. Jeannie was known for her deep faith, loving heart and beautiful smile. Her deepest joy was when she served others. She would say that it was Jesus shining through her.
Jeannie is predeceased by husband, Bart P. Hamilton and parents Walter H. and Jeannette Owen. She is survived by sisters Bunny Klein, Rose Ann Finch, Adriann Traverse; sons Barton (Angie) Lee E., Ernest and Sean; daughter Christina; grandchildren Destiny, Barton GW, Misti, Lacey, Lee O., Joseph, Jacob, Tyler (Jade); special friends Leslie, William Joel (Danielle) and Olivia Briscoe; great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Saturday, April 26, 2025, from 2-6 pm at Rose Hill Funeral Home, 3653 W Market St, Akron, OH 4433. Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at 3 pm at the United Presbyterian Church of Cuyahoga Falls, 2819 Hudson Drive, Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221. Private internment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials made be made to the church or a charitable organization of your choice.
