Born on February 12, 1955, in Visnjicevo, Serbia (then Yugoslavia), Maria was the eldest daughter of Karl "Draga" and Elizabeth Spengler. From an early age, she cared for her ten siblings, embodying a sense of responsibility and compassion that defined her throughout her life.
Maria’s selflessness and generosity were hallmarks of her character. Throughout her life, she gave of herself endlessly, whether to her family, friends, or community. As a loving wife, mother, daughter and sister, she always put others' needs before her own, often sacrificing her own desires to support those she loved.
In the later stages of her life, as dementia progressed, Maria found moments of pure joy, free from the weight of responsibility. Her final years will be remembered by her laughter, bright smile, and her carefree spirit.
Maria’s greatest pride and joy were her husband, James "Kevin" Sprain, and their children: Monica, Caitlyn, and Alan, along with his wife, Angela. She adored her grandchildren Gavin, Sofia, Liam, and Mackenzie, who brought her immeasurable happiness in her later years. Though her own dreams were often placed on hold for the sake of others, her love for her family remained unwavering.
Maria is survived by her loving husband, children, grandchildren, and extended family and friends who will remember her as a woman of profound kindness, strength, and resilience. Her passing leaves an unfillable space in the hearts of all who knew her.
We will forever carry the lessons she taught us through her example - about the power of love, sacrifice, and the importance of giving freely, without expectation.
The family extends sincere gratitude to the staff at Doylestown Health Center and Elara Caring, for their compassionate care and support of Maria during her stages of dementia. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Doylestown Health Center (Windsor House), in honor of Maria.
