Today would have been your 100th birthday... I miss you..

Dear Ruth, we heard of Mel’s passing this morning at church. You and your family have our deepest sympathy. Pastor Don had some very nice comments to say of Mel. My wife liked talking to him about quilting and I about gardening.  Enjoyed when he would bring in vegetables and the few times we visited him at his home to see  his garden and quilts. He had a long life and obviously touched many people’s hearts. We have missed seeing him at church.  Dan & Ginny Schlayer ( Wadsworth UMC)

My best memories of Melchoir who I considered as an uncle was his good heart, love for life, and always wanting to help people.  He enjoyed cooking, sewing, and gardening. My mom said he had the most beautiful garden while living in Germany.  One of the funniest stories I heard was when he left his door unlocked and some strangers walked in off the street.  He had such a good heart that he actually offered them food. I think if a burglar would have come in, he’d offer them as meal too!  Daniel and Ruth took care of their dad for many years, and he will always appreciated it.  God will bless you for doing this one day.  Rather than mourn his passing I want to celebrate because Heaven has gained another angel.  My deepest sympathy to his family and love ones because he will be missed.  May it comfort you to know he's home in Heaven and is in peace.

My grandma, my husband, my children  and I will miss Mel (Pa).  He was such a loving, sweet and kind person. He went out of his way to do things for other people to make their lives better. He was an unselfish person. We are glad to have known him. We will miss visiting with him and watching movies and eating that special chicken that we all liked. Vickie, Dan, Ruth and family we are so sorry for your loss. We hope that you will find some comfort knowing that he is in a better place.

I remember helping to make a greeting card for him and that he is "The Best Cook in Norton".  I was sorry to hear of his passing.  It is amazing how much change he would have seen during his lifetime.  May he rest in peace.  May God bless him.

Words cannot express the love I have for this handsome man. He didn't let anything stop him from doing what he wanted to do. He loved to cook. He was an expert with his sewing machine.. He made our family many many quilts. He also had a passion for gardening... He always gave us green tomatoes because he knew fried green tomatoes were my mom's favorite. But, the most thing he loved to do was spending time with his family. He and I had a connection that no one could break... But, We.. His family.. meant everything to him. He loved seeing our smiles, hearing our laughs and holding our hands. One day, he'll get to see our smiles, hear our laughs and hold our hands again. We will forever love and miss him. - Ashley 

Within the 3 months, I spent with you. I've felt privileged. Every day I find something new about you. I tried to soak it all in and even took some of your habits, like putting paprika on some buttered french bread or soup. Or flicking your hands dry at the sink. I remember you watched Grizzly Adams with me, and we would have half of a cup of Mountain Dew and cheer together. Afterward, we'd go into the kitchen and do a word search together. I tried my best to find the words, but he seemed to find them way before I did. I remember as a child, he would give us some Strawberry Bon Bons, which turned out to be one of my favorite candies. I felt that Grandpa liked strawberries a lot. I've seen so many strawberry-based foods there. It's pretty much all the stuff that I like all together. But overall, Grandpa, you were the most wonderful grandpa anyone could ever have. You were generous, kind, caring, and a total believer. God has really blessed this man. To be able to live up to 98 years?! Insane. He did what most people couldn't. Now, that's a strong man.
