

Bob was born in Akron, Ohio on November 17, 1933, raised in a loving home, graduated from Portage Path Elementary School in 1947, Buchtel High School in 1951, Kent State University in 1955, and then earned an MBA at Florida State University in 1981. Bob completed Air Force pilot training and served as an Air Force Officer/Pilot until 1981. He served in both Europe and Vietnam primarily as a pilot, earning several honors including 2 Distinguished Flying Crosses, 2 Purple Hearts, and the Legion of Merit. He retired from the Air Force in 1981, having achieved the rank of Colonel. Following his Air Force retirement, he owned and operated a large mobile home park and 500 self-storage units in Atlanta. He returned to Akron in 1998 to be near his aging mother and family. He enjoyed reuniting with several high school and college friends who shall remain unnamed. Much of his time was spent developing the world’s worst golf swing.
Bob was a deeply spiritual man although not very religious, who loved his family and hopes that he will be remembered as such.
He is survived by his son, retired Air Force Pilot and current Delta Pilot, Robert (Marti) W. Patterson of Senoia, Georgia, daughter, LynnMarie (David) Flowers of Birmingham, Alabama, brother, Dr. Richard D. Patterson of Bath, Ohio, sister, Linda P. Cole of Fairlawn, Ohio, loving companion, Carol Montalto of Fairlawn, 7 grandkids, and 11 great-grandkids.
Friends and family may come to call at Rose Hill Funeral Home, 3653 West Market Street, Fairlawn, on Saturday, July 30, 2022 from11-12, a funeral service will follow at 12 p.m.
