

Betty Carol (Smith) Branche, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and community leader, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2025, in Lansing, Michigan, at the age of 82. Born on December 25, 1942, in Albion, Michigan, Betty was the third of five children to James and Annie Mae Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents and all of her siblings: Jimmy Smith, Kathy Smith, Gail Smith, and Gary Smith.
Betty was a lifelong learner and earned both an Associate’s Degree in Business from Kellogg Community College and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business from Nazareth College. She dedicated much of her professional life to serving others, retiring after distinguished careers at Auto-Owners Insurance for 20 years and Eaton Corporation for 25 years. Betty was also a dedicated member of the Albion community, serving on the Albion City Council and earning recognition from the Albion Alumni Association for her contributions.
Betty was a devoted member and trustee at Bethel Baptist Church, where her faith, leadership, and compassion touched the lives of many. She served her church community with love and commitment, creating lasting connections with all who knew her. Betty was also an active member of the NAACP, where she was committed to advocating for equality and justice in her community.
She was a loving and devoted mother to four children: Carmen (Miller) Thomas, Pennie Bradley, Shelly Bradley, and Kyle (Arquella) Bradley. Her legacy lives on in her 10 grandchildren: Janaia (Travis) Erickson-Arnold, Fallon Williams, Jacolbi Bradley, Tyrell Meyers, Bradley Meyers, Kiesha (Troy) Pearson, Erkia Williams, Brian Bradley, Kylen (Haley) Bradley, and Autumn Bradley. Betty’s spirit shines brightly through her 21 great-grandchildren, who brought her great joy.
Betty enjoyed a variety of hobbies, including bowling, shopping, yardwork, and baking. Her warm, caring nature, sense of humor, and infectious spirit will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who were blessed to know her.
Betty leaves behind a rich legacy of love, faith, education, service, and advocacy. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those she touched, and her influence will continue to be felt in the community she served so generously.
Rest in peace, Betty—your love, kindness, and legacy will never be forgotten.
Services for Betty will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2025: Family Hour will take place from 12:00PM - 1:00PM with the Funeral Service to follow at 1:00PM at Freeway Church, 28900 B Drive N, Albion, Michigan 49224.
