Carolene Carter

Carolene (Wilkerson) Carter, 49, passed away Friday, March 2, 2012 at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. Carolene (Wilkerson) Carter was born in 1962, to the union of Lendsey and Johnie Mae Wilkerson in Brewton, Alabama.

She was the eldest of three daughters. Carolene received her formal education through the Albion Public School System graduating in 1980. It wasn’t long before her beauty and charm caught the eye of Leon Carter and in 1982, they were united in holy matrimony. Their love grew as did the family with four children; Kiera, Kristen, Lynsi and Thomas and together they shared 29 years of blissful marriage.

Carolene was employed by State Farm Insurance Company in Marshall as a file clerk for 15 years and retired early due to a disability. She had many gifts and talents and in her leisure, she enjoyed baking, reading and crocheting. In life, she was a very loving and giving person who was loved by everyone she encountered. She had a sincere heart and always delighted in helping people by making blankets. She touched many people’s lives in unique ways. She was also an affectionate and caring mother who enjoyed spending time with her family and sought only the best in life for her children and grandchildren.

Carolene departed this life on March 2, 2012. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, John Meeks, grandmother, Sallie Bell Meeks and sister, Dorothy Jean Johnson. She leaves to cherish her memory: parents, Lindsey & Johnie Mae Wilkerson, husband, Leon Carter; daughters, Kiera Carter of Jackson, MI; Kristen (Greg) Guertin of Reading, MI; Lynsi Wilkerson of Albion, MI; son, Thomas Carter of Albion, MI; sister, Charleen Wilkerson, of Albion, MI; four grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

A Private Memorial Service was held at J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home with Elder Elmer Hess, Jr., officiating. The Burial took place at Albion Memory Gardens. Memorial contributions can be made to the National Kidney Foundation or the American Heart Association.
