

Dorothy Joan Watson “Joan” of Coldwater/Wayne, MI, passed away on December 7, 2025, at the age of 93 in Hillsdale, MI. Born on April 9, 1932, in Coldwater, Michigan, Joan was the beloved daughter of Donnie and Caroline (Horn) Watson.
Joan graduated from Coldwater High School and pursued higher education, becoming a member of the Alpha Delta Teaching Sorority. Her dedication to education was evident throughout her career, where she taught physical education at Wayne Memorial High School. She was instrumental in starting swimming classes and synchronized swimming at the school. Joan also taught at Wayne/Westland Elementary School and retired after 35 years of service. Additionally, she worked for H & R Block for over 25 years.
Joan is survived by her sister, Joyce Watson Harvey, along with numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great and great-great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers: Donald Watson, Gerald Watson, and Howard Watson, and two sisters: Virginia Watson Corless and Carolyn Watson Siler.
In her personal life, Joan enjoyed bowling until the age of 89 and had a passion for golf. She loved socializing with friends and traveling, which brought her immense joy. An active member of her community, she served as a deacon with the First Congregational Church of Westland, Michigan.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date for the family. Her hard-working nature and dedication to her community and family will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
