

Frank was born in Alamosa, Colorado, on July 23, 1936, to Blanche (Lutz) and Benjamin Hiday. The family moved to Indiana in 1941. He graduated from Milton High School. He was an honor student and he played basketball and baseball. He graduated from Franklin College where he also played basketball. He also received Master’s degrees from Michigan State University and Indiana University.
Frank married Milli Struewing, his high school sweetheart, on June 7, 1958. He taught high school in Whiteland and Richmond, Indiana. After moving his family to Michigan in 1965, Frank taught at Albion High School for 31 years and retired in 1996. Frank was a very successful head boys’ basketball coach for eight (8) years. He helped start the girl’ basketball program and coached girls track. Also during his career, Frank had served as Athletic Director and an Assistant Principal. Frank loved coaching and teaching at Albion High School and cared deeply for the students. He was a caring and fair teacher. His compassion and optimism were a natural part of his character.
A great passion was playing and watching basketball, especially “Hoosier” basketball with his family. His family was the most important thing in his life. Frank loved his wife, his children, his grandchildren and his great grandchildren. He loved the Lord and he loved his extended family, his friends and people in general. Spending time with his family was a very important part of his life such as family vacations at the lake, boating, traveling, horses, and being involved in his son and daughter’s activities. This continued with his grandchildren’s activities.
Surviving are his wife, Milli, son, Dan (Holly) Hiday of Burlington, MI, daughter, Jeanne (Andy) Petty of Auburn Hills, MI, grandchildren, Alex (Lillian) Hiday, Adam (Becky) Hiday, Aaron (Hillary) Hiday, all of the Burlington area; Kayla Petty, Drew Petty and Luke Petty, all of Auburn Hills, MI; great grandchildren Josie and Brooklyn Hiday, Chloe and Christian Hiday and Colton Hiday. Also surviving, are a sister, JoAnn Warnke of Lewisburg, OH, two sisters-in-law, Ruth Sweetwood and Patsy Struewing, both of Milton, IN and several nieces and nephews.
Frank was a kind, warm, loving man and will be deeply missed by family and friends.
Visitation will be at Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, 811 Finley Drive, Albion, Michigan 4924 on Sunday, February 26th from 2:00 pm to 6:00pm. The Funeral Service will be at St. John Catholic Church, 1020 Irwin Avenue, Albion on Monday, February 27th at 12:00 NOON with Father Joe Gray officiating. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Albion.
