     Being boys of the same age, and first cousins, I have fond memories of the many times that Butch and I spent together growing up.  Some of those include going to the U.P./Munising with our fathers to camp and fish at Uncle Art’s cabin, spending school breaks in Albion with him, Uncle Art, and Aunt Myrt in their home where we had a great time with his ham radio hobby, and, of course, we were together for many Martin family gatherings during holidays. 

     We lost connection with each other for many years after Sharon and I were married and had moved out of state, so it meant a lot that Butch, after hearing of my cancer diagnosis, reached out to reconnect with us.   One of Butch’s strengths was his kind and caring heart.  We continued to keep updated through occasional phone conversations and to meet when we would come to Michigan for visits. 

 I will always be grateful that I was able to talk with him on the phone just a few days before his passing.  He will be deeply missed by us, and by those whose lives he touched.



 


Gordy was a rare individual that I met in the 70’s at WKZO in Kalamazoo. We had a lot of common interest and I regarded him as a gifted engineer.

I met Gordon Martin when I was 17 years old in 1964.  We always called Gordon "Butch", I don't know why.  That was nearly 55 years ago.  I played in a band called "The Telestars" and Butch became a big part of the band.  He made sure our PA System (which he made) was always up and running and that we sounded good.  He helped us get our gear to the gigs (we called them engagements in those days) in all sorts of weather.  Butch was the true driving force behind The Telestars.
     I stayed in touch with Butch on and off over the years and in more recent times saw him quite a bit.  Butch was one of the nicest guys I've ever known.  I moved away from Michigan 40 years ago but have recently returned.  I was planning on spending a lot more time with Butch because he was fun to hang out with and was interested in almost everything.  Butch was truly a Renaissance Man.
     I will miss Butch very much.  Things just won't be the same without him.  It is hard for me to believe Butch is gone.  His departure will leave a big hole in my life.  I know I will think of him often.

Ken and I lived across the road from Gordon and we always enjoyed our talks on our front porch. He took pictures of our home with his drone and gave them to us and since we moved away we will always cherish those pictures and our friendship with Gordon.  

To the family of Gordon. So very sorry to hear of Gordon passing. I knew Gordon for many years from the early 60’s. I gave him his first test for Ham radio. I will always remember going to Florida  with him in the mid 60’s.  I will miss talking to him.

I first met Butch in 1967, He worked with us at Wolverine Cablevision in Albion. Gordon was an avid amateur radio operator and builder of electronic items. We kept in touch occasionally, at ham events and later with a radio hookup most Tuesdays. Warm Condolences to all family and friends.

Gordon, David, and Family,

My husband and I with our 2 little girls have lived across the street from Gordon for 2 years. His vibrance was charming- and his perfectly manicured lawn in the Spring/Summer and cleared driveway in the Winter was impossible competition! He was a friendly and gracious neighbor. The girls were thrilled when he brought them each a bag of candy last Halloween. I am thankful for the energy, health, and independence he was blessed with throughout his life.

I will pray for each of you during this time. May the good memories take precedence and bring you comfort as you process your loss.
