

Joe Davis McGear was born September 21, 1940 in Fayetteville, Tennessee to Sam McGear and Martha Dyer. He transitioned from this earthly life on February 26, 2023, at home. He was an only child but was raised on his grandfather’s farm with his special cousin Ersken Hampton who was like a brother.
He moved to Albion, Michigan in 1964 and retired from Harvard Industries in 2001. He joined the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Charles Magee.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam McGear and Martha Dyer; grandparents, David Dyer and Laura Dyer; son, Glen McGear; and step-son, Randy Ragland.
Joe was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved his family and spending time with them. He enjoyed the Tennessee Ball which he attended each year and loved sports teams, Kansas City Chiefs, Tennessee Titans, and Detroit Lions and basketball player Kevin Durant. He also loved watching Westerns on television.
He leaves to cherish hos memory, his devoted wife Esther McGear of 18 years; son, Joey McGear of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Step-children: Stafford Cobb of Texas, Pamela Hicks and Kerri Hicks of Fayetteville, Georgia, Tonya (Tyrone) Simmons, Joseph Ragland, Bryan (Jennifer) Ragland of Lansing, Michigan. Grandchildren: Steven (Nicole) Cobb, Stafford Lamark Cobb of Texas, Takara Hicks and Landon Hicks of Fayetteville, Georgia; sister-in-law: Sylvia (Bobby) Lawhorn of Georgia, Brenda Onuosa of Detroit, Michigan; brother-in-law: Delmos Clark and sister-in-law, Uanita (Donald) Ray of Jackson, Michigan; Rev. Jacqueline (Charles) Humphrey of Lansing, Michigan. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends. Special friends: Ida Rider, Robbie Patterson, Mattie Harris, Essie Curtis and Rev. Fred (Frankie) Alexander of Albion, Michigan.
A family hour for Joe will be held Friday, March 3, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Macedonia Missionary Baptist church, 1010 Chauncy Street, Albion, MI 49224. Following the family hour will be a funeral service at 12:00 PM at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, 1010 Chauncey Street, Albion, MI.
