Life is but a journey filled with roads we dare to trod!!! Lloyd Mitchell’s journey began on June 16, 1935 when he joined his twin brother Floyd in enhancing the lives of his parents, the late Twitty Mitchell and Annie Mitchell Streeter. Born in the small town of Fayetteville, Tennessee, he became accustomed to hearing the dual address of “Lloyd and Floyd” that extended from early years into his adult life. His family moved to Shelbyville, Tennessee where he received his early education and graduated from Bedford County Training School in 1954. Lloyd was an outstanding athlete in high school football which resulted in him receiving a scholarship to Tennessee A and I State University (Now Tennessee State University). After a year at TSU, Lloyd decided to join his brother to live in Albion, Michigan.
Lloyd became employed at Hayes Albion Malleable Iron Company, where he was highly respected, became the Union Steward and worked until his retirement. As soon as Lloyd was established in Albion, he returned to Shelbyville to pursue his high school sweetheart, Joann Cleveland. On December 25, 1957, they were united in Holy Matrimony and celebrated 64 years of marriage on December 25, 2021. Their union was blessed with two sons and a daughter; Landon, Kimberly, and Nathan, respectively.
Lloyd, often known as “Mitch”, possessed the spirit of the Good Samaritan. He had a heart of gold and would give his last to help others. Uniquely, he expected nothing in return. Family, friends and even foes have been the recipients of his generosity. He used his position at Hayes Albion to secure employment for numerous relatives and friends to relocate from Shelbyville, TN to secure a better livelihood for their
families. At every opportunity, he encouraged and mentored young people…always with the message to do your best. He loved to laugh and would not miss an opportunity to joke around with friends and family. After retirement, Lloyd worked at Albion College as a means to keep busy and to stay in contact with people. He was truly a “people person” and was loved by so many. His grandchildren were especially dear to him…he welcomed them at any time. Lloyd gave his life to Christ at an early age and united with the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church where he was faithful until he experienced health challenges. He served as a deacon, trustee and member of the Men’s Choir at Macedonia. When needed, he would willingly assist as a kitchen helper.
Lloyd was uniquely bonded to his twin brother and noticeably strained to adjust to Floyd’s transition. On February 3, 2022, God allowed Lloyd to complete his journey and reunite with Floyd, his parents Twitty and Annie Mitchell, his brother James Mitchell and his grandson, Austin Mitchell. Remaining to cherish years of precious memories are his wife, Joann Mitchell; sons, Landon (Regina)Mitchell , Nathan Mitchell and Cathrine Baughey; daughter, Kimberly(Michael) Postell; sister, Faye Jean Stallworth; eight grandchildren, LaVall (Destinee)Jordan, Briahna Mitchell, Terrell Mitchell, Alexandria Mitchell, Alycia Mitchell, Alandrea Mitchell, Niajee(Naleshia)Mitchell, Darius Postell; seven great-grandchildren, Ava Jordan, Allana Jordan, Adallyn Jordan, Serenity Mitchell, Meilani Mitchell, Avery Mitchell, Ryan Mitchell; five sisters-in-law, Alma Mitchell, Olivia Ray, Martha Dysart, Era(Jerome)Twyman, Evelyn Thomas; two brothers-in-law, Joe(Evelyn) Cleveland, Donald(Denise) Cleveland; special namesake Michael Lloyd Mitchell and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
