Mary F. Mahler, age 72, passed away peacefully at home with her family on May 31, 2021, after a long battle with cancer. She was born on July 17, 1948, in Albion, Michigan, daughter of David A. Garfield and Shirley June (Creps) Garfield.
Mary moved with her family to Duck Lake, Michigan at age two, where the family store/Silver Beach Resort was established. She graduated from Charlotte Public Schools, and then attended Western Michigan University where she earned a B.S. in elementary education and a M.S. degree in counseling. Mary (Mrs. Davis) taught first grade in Springport, Michigan for many years and later held the position of Middle School counselor there. After retirement, she volunteered at the Forks Senior Center in Albion and enjoyed traveling to various places with family members.
Mary’s beautiful loving smile reached out equally to family, friends, and strangers. She showed a unique enjoyment and interest in others and was able to have a genuine caring connection to each person she was with. Nature in general and animals were a delight to her; but Mary’s greatest joy were the grandchildren. And Oma was a favorite of theirs!
Mary is survived by her loving family; husband Ron of 30 years, sons Stephen (Carrie) Davis of Jackson and James (Keia) Davis of Freeport, stepchildren Rich Mahler of Manchester and Diana (Gordie) Locke of Eagle, and 9 grandchildren - Shaina and Anthony Mahler, Emily and Sarah Locke, Gabriella, Alex, and Genevieve Davis and Anna and Jacob Davis.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday June 9, 2021, from 2 – 4 pm and 6 – 8 pm at J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, 811 Finley Drive, Albion, Michigan. A private memorial service for family will be held at a later date at Riverside Cemetery in Albion, Michigan.
Contributions to the following charities are suggested in lieu of flowers - Hospice of Southwest Michigan (7100 Stadium Drive, Kalamazoo, MI 49007) and the Forks Senior Center (101 N. Albion Street, Albion, MI, 49224)
