

Mary, age 99, passed away on Monday, August 11, 2014 at Maplewood of Marshall,
surrounded by her family.
Mary, the daughter of John Oliver Jackson and Ellen Hammon-Jackson, was born
on August 28, 1914 in Poinsett County, Arkansas.
She married Edmond Earl Staley on October 16, 1931, and they were married for
54 years. She came to Michigan with her family in 1949, settling in Marshall in
1950, and moving to Albion in 1962. Mary retired from Albion College in 1979.
Mary loved to be active. She was an avid gardener and a community volunteer.
She volunteered with Albion Community Hospital, and the American Red Cross,
helping at blood drives until she was well into her 90s. She was an active member
of New Hope Worship Center in Albion.
Surviving is her sister, Josephine Phariss of Nashville, TN; her children
Phyllis (James) Mullins of Albion; Earl Royce Staley of Somonauk, IL; James
(Martha) Staley of Richmond, VA; and Anne Earle of Albion.
Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 18 great-great-
grandchildren, and 4 great-great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in
death by her parents, John and Ellen; her husband, Edmond Earl; her daughter,
LaYvonne; her grandson, Christopher; and great-grandchildren Michael and
Brittany Hunt.
Visitation for family and friends will be Friday, August 15, 2014 from 6:00-8:00PM
at the J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, 811 Finley Drive, Albion, Michigan 49224.
Funeral Service will be held Saturday, August 16, 2014 at 1:00PM at the funeral
home with Reverend William Steere officiating. Interment will be at Albion Memory Gardens, Albion, MI.
The family would like to thank the staff of Maplewood in Marshall for the
excellent care they provided Mary during the years she lived there, and especially
during her last days.
Memorial contributions can be made in Mary’s honor to the American Red Cross
Calhoun County Branch.
