Mike attended Concord High School, before relocating to Northern Michigan. Mike loved being outside and worked most of his life on the farm; he worked on pig farms that sent him to many states, beginning in Michigan and ultimately taking him to where he spent more than 25 years of his life, Indiana. In May of 2025, Mike made the move home and returned to Albion.
Mike loved the “farm” life and took pride in a “hard day’s work”. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and that good ole 70’s rock n roll. He loved watching football, especially his Indianapolis Colts and the Detroit Lions – and talking smack (via text) to his sister during the games. Mike was quiet but hard working; he could be rough around the edges but was good at his core.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by sons, Matthew (Whitney) Shelters and Michael (Amy) Shelters, and Stepson, Gary (Wendy) Kiger; grandchildren, Jessica (Derek) Scott, Kirstyn Kiger, Emma Johnson, Bryson Johnson, Ellie Kiger, and Maddie Johnson; great-grandchildren, Annabel, Elsie, and Mason Scott, and siblings, Tom (Lisa) Shelters, Susie (Scott) Clark, and Linda Clark.
A private family service will be held in the upcoming weeks.
Any donations in Mike’s name can be made to the Oaklawn Dialysis Center in Albion, Michigan or the donor’s choice.
Mike’s family would like to thank the staff at Oaklawn Dialysis Center, in Albion for their caring ways, and the incredible hard work and knowledge they did every single day.
