Kolb, Sandra Kay (Hickerson), 65, entered into eternal rest on Friday, July 10, 2015. Born in Battle Creek but raised in Albion, Michigan, Sandy moved with her husband through the years, living in Michigan, Virginia, Georgia, and Arizona. They finally settled in Wichita, Kansas. During her professional career, she served as a property tax appraiser in Albion, Michigan, and Chesterfield County, Virginia, and in Albion, her work broadened to include human resource management. Her skills earned her numerous Total Quality Initiative (TQI) awards and recognitions. Passionate about her family and the plight of others, Sandy devoted extensive volunteer time at domestic violence shelters including Safe Place in Battle Creek, and Safe Harbor in Richmond. She was an active member of the Black History Committee in Chesterfield County, Virginia, and served the less fortunate as a volunteer at the Lord’s Diner in Wichita. She is preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Irene Hickerson, and her favorite pet, Casey. She is survived by her husband, George; son, Leigh Michael Norton (Albion, MI); brothers and sisters, Jack Kevin Hickerson (Farmington, MI) Barbara Hickerson (Pueblo, CO) and Jeffrey Hickerson (Sonora, Ky); granddaughter, Adrian Adams (Eaton Rapids, MI); aunts, Donna Cvitkovic (Albion) and Geraldine Blodgett (Albion); her childhood best friend, Nancy Sims; her beloved family pet, Gracie; and a host of relatives and friends. Visitation will be 6:00 - 7:00 P.M., Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at Downing & Lahey Mortuary East, and a memorial service will be held Wednesday, July 15, 2015, at 10:00 A.M. at College Hill United Methodist Church, Rev. Kent Little officiating. Burial services will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2015, at 11:00 A.M. at Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, 811 Finley Drive, Albion, Michigan with visitation from 10-11 A.M. on Saturday.
