

her journey home to our Savior on a magnificent All Saints Day afternoon. Surrounded by her
family and caregivers, she leaves with us enduring memories that will be shared with
generations to come.
Shirley’s interest in American and English history are present in her vast home library.
Each book, read from front to back, added to her profound understanding of human nature
and the countless characters who help shape it. While she never authored a book, she created
a living history of her family by annotating photos with names and details that allow them
to live on. Her beautiful handwritten notes will be cherished.
Shirley had a profound love in the American Indian and their diverse art and culture. Her empathy
for them was equaled by her actions to help preserve and tell their history. Shirley was a
Albion College Graduate, Class of ’50, Phi Beta Kappa, Editor Albion Pleiad, President of ELT Club, President of Delta Gamma Sorority, Retired from Albion Public Schools system. A literature
and history teacher who touched the lives of thousands of students, Gardner House Museum Board Member, Albion Public Library, Elsie Munro Albion History Project Archivist.
Many knew Shirley as an authority on fine antiques and family heirlooms. She could have been
considered our Albion Antiques Roadshow Expert.
Shirley is survived by:
Husband- John Sharp
Daughters- Diane (Leroy) Jacobsen, Debbie Cunningham, Jane (Marion) Seaton
Daughter-in-law- Carrie Sharp
Grandchildren- John (Ellie) Seaton, Anne (Shane) Colston, Eric (Betsy) Seaton,
John Sharp and Audrey Sharp
Great-Grandsons-Jack and Luke Seaton
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Angelo Valato, sister Mabel Oben,
infant sister Phyllis Watson and a son John Watson Sharp.
Funeral Service will be held Thursday, November 5, 2015 at 11:00AM at
Wesley Chapel, 600 E. Michigan Avenue, Albion, Michigan 49224 with Pastor Jeremy Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Albion
