Donald Wayne Matcovich

Donald Wayne Matcovich, age 85, passed away peacefully on November 24, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. Don was born June 2, 1939, in Miami, Florida, to Joseph R. Matcovich and Delores E. (Fernandez) Matcovich Wilson. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers George Matcovich, Jack and Glenn Wilson and sister Betty Reeve. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Iris, and 3 loving children, Debra (Ken) Quick, Cindy (Bob) Burkett, David (Susan) Matcovich; 6 grandchildren, 5 great-grandsons with one on way, sister Melva Depkin and numerous nieces and nephews.

Don was a member of the IBEW for over 60 years in the construction and maintenance of electrical utilities, many of those as a Superintendent for LE Myers and Brock Electric. He retired from the School District of Palm Beach County, FL in 2001 after 11 years as Manager of the Maintenance Department. Don was a 33 Degree Mason, enjoyed listening to country and gospel music and watching auto racing, home improvements and building houses in Central Florida.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to Darryl Riegel, M.D., and staff and to Paul Holcomb, M.D., and staff for their excellent care, especially during the last stage of his life and also to Blount Memorial Hospice Care for walking us through the stages of end life and for making the transition as comfortable as possible for Don.

The family welcomes friends to a Visitation at Sherwood Chapel and Memorial Gardens, on Monday, December 2, 2024, from 1pm-2pm, with a Funeral Service at 2pm and Graveside Service to follow in the Last Supper Garden.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Shriners Hospital for Children or to the charity of your choice.
