Andrew (Andy) Edward Gore of Abbotsford, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 14, 2023 at the age of 90. He is survived by his wife of 64 years Joan, son Randy (Suzann Chardon) and granddaughter Amita (Max Bissegger). He was predeceased by his mother and father (Albert and Rebecca) and his sister (Becky).
Born in Calgary, his family moved to Cranbrook, where he went to school. He played for the Cranbrook High School hockey team and performed at the Calgary Stampede as the trumpeter for the High School band. Andy spent many years coaching in the MSA (Abbotsford) Minor Hockey Association and remained a hockey fan his entire life.
After high school, Andy held various jobs in construction and automobile repair until he joined the Royal Canadian Navy at age 21. After 25 years of service in radio communications, he retired as a CPO2. He continued his career in the Coast Guard, retiring after 40 years of total service.
Andy was a true ‘handyman’ and took great pride in completing many complex projects around the house. After retirement, Andy built a cedar strip canoe from scratch and spent many years active in the Dogwood Canoe & Kayak Club, anxiously waiting for every Wednesday’s paddle. He also enjoyed flying stunt kites when on vacation in Oregon and Hawai’i.
As per his request, there will not be a memorial service. We would like to thank the staff at Tabor Home in Abbotsford for their support in Andy’s last few months.
