Mable was born Mable Johanna Bendickson in Fosston, Saskatchewan. She came from humble beginnings, the seventh child of eight children of John and Hilda Bendickson. She is predeceased by them all.
Mabel came to BC’s Fraser Valley around 1945 and it became her forever home. It was at a Dewdney Hall dance in 1947 that she met Jack McRae and they were married that November at St Andrew’s United Church in Mission.
They raised their family in Mission and in Dewdney. She was an avid gardener, making beautiful gardens at every place they lived.
Mable always stayed involved in the communities where she lived. She was a talented seamstress and in the early 70’s she opened her own business, McRae Drapery.
Mabel also worked at Eatons and at Pharmasave in Mission. After retirement, she volunteered at the Mission Museum, and the Mission Archives, and her love of preserving the past would become a compass for how she lived her later years. She became an avid researcher in genealogy, and her passion enabled her to write and publish “The Wonder of our Heritage” in 1982, the book which continues the Bendickson family lineage up to 1981.
Mable loved road trips and with Jack driving they crisscrossed the USA and Canada, always visiting family and friends along the way. She loved to attend anniversary and birthday gatherings, weddings and family reunions. With Jack, Mabel was also fortunate to have travelled to England, Scotland and Wales and to Hawaii.
The family has been blessed to have had Mable in our lives. She was a remarkable lady and may she forever rest in peace.
Interment will take place on May 9 at 1pm at Hatzic Cemetery, Hatzic, BC
