

Betty Sue Squires of Mabelvale, Arkansas passed away on January 21, 2025, at the age of 82 years and 11 months. Betty Sue was born on February 16, 1942, in Bee Branch, AR. She moved to Mabelvale as a little girl, where she lived most of her life. She graduated from Mabelvale High School and went on to earn her bachelor's degree in mathematics from the University of Central Arkansas. Betty taught for 8 years at Mabelvale Junior High before she went on to teach the for the visually impaired. She was awarded the Teacher of the Year award in the State of Arkansas. However, she was most proud to have received Teacher of the Year at the School for the Blind her very first year teaching there.
Betty Sue was an active member at Temple Missionary Baptist Church and then Village Creek Baptist Church. She touched so many lives in all her years of teaching, Sunday school teaching, and even bible school. She continued learning throughout her life, earning a certificate from the Bible Institute. Betty Sue enjoyed various hobbies over the years such as cross-stitch, sewing, and ceramics. She also loved working in her flower garden, traveling, and vacations to see flower gardens. She especially loved traveling through the years with her friends, her sister Mary Loe, her daughter Dena, and her grandchildren Levi, Luke, and Kathleeen. She enjoyed fishing with Richard when it wasn't too cold.
She always made the family feel loved. She fed anyone who visited, and you never left without a take home dish. Betty watched sports with Richard for years, especially baseball. She even continued to watch after he had passed. When told she would have many jewels in her heavenly crown, she replied "I am not into jewelry, just give me a baseball cap."
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Squires, and parents Harvey and Lillian Martin. She is survived by her daughters, Dena (Mark) Dixson of Benton, and Tracy (Gabriel) Decker of Horseshoe Bend; 6 grandchildren, Levi Lindsley, Luke (Hannah) Lindsley, Kathleen Lindsley, Jessica Dixson, Julian (Sarah) Decker, Skye (Jose Perez) Muniz; brother, Jimmy Martin, sister, Mary Loe Voss, younger brother, Claud Martin; as well as several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A visitation for Betty will be held Monday, January 27, 2025 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Pinecrest Funeral Home, 7401 HIGHWAY 5 N, ALEXANDER, AR 72002, followed by a funeral service at 10:00 AM. She will be laid to rest immediately following the service at Pinecrest Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Village Creek Baptist Church, 13324 Sardis Road Mabelvale, Arkansas 72103.
