He was always able to pull information out of his head at once, but re medication, he always backed it up by referring to his textbooks. While teaching at UAMS College of Pharmacy, he enjoyed his students, and rapidly became a favorite with them. He taught for 35 years, and during the later years, joined a band of other musically inclined pharmacists, with him playing harmonica. They were known as "The Drug Store Cowboys". They were popular around Little Rock, and soon were part of the entertainment at various pharmaceutical meetings around the United States.
Bill retired early from his occupation to join Reda at their home on the shores of Greers Ferry Lake, near Clinton. He went fishing almost every day, swimming in the summer, and hunting when the season came. He also developed his skills at making cabin tables, etc., giving them away at first, then selling them as he gained popularity.
