Gordon was born July 11, 1941, to Everett & Sybil Hearon Green. He graduated from Ole Main High School in North Little Rock in 1959. His father died three years later, so Gordon interrupted his college studies to provide and care for his mother and disabled older brother, which he did for the rest of their lives.
Gordon worked 28 years at Worthen Bank as a loan auditor and computer programmer, and later for Pulaski County before retiring.
He attended night classes for 20 years and received his Bachelor of Science degree in computer science and math from UALR in 1980, an achievement that was celebrated by the entire family. Gordon was a lifelong learner who continued taking night classes after graduation so he could keep up with the latest computer technology; he also loved studying the Bible.
Gordon enjoyed playing chess and golf, following the Arkansas Razorbacks football and basketball teams, and cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals, especially at Busch Stadium. He was a member of Toastmasters and a firefighter with the East Pulaski Volunteer Department for several years, earning their Firefighter of the Year Award in 1987.
Gordon is survived by his sister, Mary (Marvin) Hudwalker of Cedar Falls, Iowa; his nieces, Linda (Denny) Bowman of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Amy (Alejandro) Vasquez of Miami, Florida; his nephew, Tim (Shari) of St. Louis, Missouri; five great-nephews and three great-nieces, Ben, Sam and Cooper Bowman; Curtis (Jennifer), Jon (Alexandra) and Megan Hudwalker; Andrea and Natalia Vasquez; and two close first cousins and their families, Melissa Tenison of North Little Rock and her daughters April Berryman and Cassidy Tenison, and Darren (Stephanie) Dutton of Sherwood and their daughters Emily (Tucker) Davis and Mallory (Sean) McGowan and baby Cliff.
Greeting him in heaven were his father, mother and brother Harrell, along with a special aunt and uncle, Jimmie (Hearon) and Lestal Dutton, and other relatives.
Graveside services will be held at Pinecrest Memorial Park on Saturday, April 17, at 10 a.m.
Gordon lived a selfless, humble life devoted to his family and serving God. He faithfully attended Sylvan Hills Church of Christ in Sherwood, where memorials may be directed.
