He was born October 2, 1926, in Unionville Center, Ohio, to Russel and Alice Reed. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife of 67 years, Arlee Washburn Reed.
Mel retired from the Little Rock Fire Department after 30 years of service. He has been a member of Geyer Springs Baptist Church since 1957.
He is survived by two daughters, Patricia Ann and Cynthia Marie; four grandchildren, Paige, Haley, Sarah and Emily; five great-grandchildren, Taylor, Keely, Brayden, Cade and Ryn; and brother, Fred Reed.
Visitation will be Friday, November 17, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Pinecrest Funeral Home, 7401 Hwy 5 North, Alexander. Graveside services will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Pinecrest Memorial Park.
