Shirley Dean Binns VanBuren, age 88, of Little Rock, Arkansas passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2024. Shirley was born the youngest of five children on July 21, 1936 in Little Rock, Arkansas to the late Maceo and Jessie (Woods) Binns. In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her brother, Maceo Binns, Jr.; and sisters Dr. Evelyn Wasson, Myrtle Birch, and Billie Washington.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Valencia Walker Corrothers (Jerry); grandson, Sean Paul Corrothers; her former husband and friend, James H. VanBuren; as well as a host of beloved nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
She was a member of St. Mark Baptist Church in Little Rock, AR. She graduated from Dunbar High School and was a member of the Dunbar Alumni Association. She was a faithful employee of Arkansas Children’s Hospital for over 25 years before her retirement.
A visitation for Shirley will be held Saturday, November 16, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Pinecrest Funeral Home, 7401 HIGHWAY 5 N, ALEXANDER, AR 72002, followed by a funeral service from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. Shirley will be laid to rest at Pinecrest Memorial Park.
