I'm heartsick to know of Rex's passing. He was such a sweet and great young man. I only wish I could have come to be with you at the time.

I wanted to take the time to share my condolences with you on the loss of your son.  I only became aware because I like to read the Washington Post and I saw his face posted in the obituaries. It struck me as a face of someone I'd want to know more about, and that's when I noticed the name Van Pelt.  Seeing your sister's name, Donna Smith, I knew it was you whose Mother and Father owned my home on Park Drive, SE.  My heart goes out to you and your family.  I know that words are of little use right now during this time of immense grief.  I am so sorry for your loss.  Very sorry.

I noticed in the description of Rex that he was someone who always helped others.  I was struck by that description because I will never forget your kindness and generosity to me when you were at the house helping pack your Mother's things.  You were kind beyond what I would have hoped for even while being very concerned about your own Mother's health.  The commotion of the move was taking a big toll on her physically and emotionally.  I remember your describing things in the house and neighborhood that you thought might be useful for me. It was the first time I had ever bought a houseand it will be the last time too.  You left me a handful of items that I treasure  small things   tabletop lamps and a little white lattice outdoor table your dad made years prior. I love that there is continuity in the energy of our 2 households.  But more importantly, I wanted to tell you that I think your son learned how to help others from you.  You lived that life and he lived it too.  I have not forgotten your kindness.  I am so sorry for your loss.  I am keeping you and your family in my prayers.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Rex was like a brother to both me and my brother. I remeber the nights we spent at his house, staying in late hours. He was always there when i needed someone talk to. I loved the times we went bowling.  He was kind, loving and i will always remeber his friendship. I will miss him. His family is in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Sharon and John,  Your beautiful son Rex was friends with my son Eric Fritz. Rex visited our home on a number of occasions and he was always very gracious and helpful. He had a wonderful spirit and we will all miss him very very much.

We got to know Rex through his close friendship with our son Orion. When I think of Rex, I think of his compassion, his smile, and positive vibes. He worked with Orion on projects at our home, painting and creating a beautiful brick walkway. The walkway is more special to us now. 
Rex shared his love of music with our son. With my husband David's encouragement Rex practiced and at times played in their jams. He will be greatly missed. Our deepest condolences to Rex's parents John and Sharon and family.

There's not much I didn't do with Rex.  He was my best friend from a very early age.  Rex was there for our first day of Kindergarten;  Rex was there to host the biggest Middle School party;  Rex was there when I first learned how not to drive;  Rex was there when I first learned to ski;  Rex was there for several great late nights of bowling with me.  I'm deeply going miss all of the shared adventures Rex was there for with me.  Rex and his family are in my thoughts and prayers.
