Anne Cecelia Mastrostefano

It is with deep sadness and regret that we share news of the passing of Anne Fleming Farrell Mastrostefano, AKA “Mama” or “Yaya”. Beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, she left us peacefully, surrounded by the family who loved her dearly. She was born in New York City in 1939, and left there with her first husband, Bob, to raise a family of four around the country from Hawaii to Rhode Island and everywhere in between as a Navy wife. She was a gifted and wonderful teacher (of so many things), who taught in the Fairfax County Schools for over 30 years, instructing special needs students of all ages and changing their lives for the better. She was an avid quilter, a world traveler from Antarctica to Tunisia, and a master baker who didn’t believe in too much sugar. She loved Cosmopolitans, sleeping late, and laughing a lot. She was perpetually selfless, your biggest supporter- a five foot tall giant. Anne was preceded in death by her true love and devoted husband of 25 years, Antonio Mastrostefano. Anne is survived by her four children: Robert, William (Shannon), Mary (Fred), and Stephen (Julie); her three stepsons: Anthony (Lori), David (Deborah), and Robert (Monica); and her 10 adored grandchildren: Alexa, Alex (Nicole), Elyse, Reilly, Nikki, Zoe, Taylor, Mary, Cara and Phoebe. She is also survived by her three sisters: Connie, Bernadette, and Rosemary (Richard). Anne was preceded in death by her brothers, Bill and Charlie, and her sister, Betty. Anne will be remembered for her warmth, smile, and shining eyes. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

A visitation will be held at Demaine Funeral Home Alexandria on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 from 5:00-8:00PM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, September 26, 2024 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Alexandria beginning at 10:30AM.

She will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
