Bernard Joseph Stoll Jr. (Barry) of Alexandria VA passed away on Saturday October 17 at the age of 76. Barry is survived by his son Bernard Joseph (Joey) Stoll III, wife, Susan Bromm, sister Sandy Coltrain and numerous nieces and nephews. His parents Bernard J. Stoll and Ernastine Stoll Brown predeceased him.
Barry was born in Cincinnati Ohio and attended the University of Cincinnati where he obtained both a BS and MS in Civil (Environmental) Engineering. After graduation Barry joined the Public Health Service Commissioned Corps where he attained the rank of Lieutenant. Barry began working at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) when it was first created in 1970. There he enjoyed a long career as an engineer and manager, working in the hazardous waste field, including the development of the first federal regulatory standards for managing hazardous waste safely. Barry retired from EPA in 2OO5.
In his retirement, Barry was an avid exerciser and volunteered at Fairfax County’s Providence Recreation Center. One of his duties there was teaching his infamous Ab Attack class that he led three times a week. Barry was also a true sports car enthusiast. His love of sports cars began with his first, a Karmann Ghia, and over the years moved towards British sports cars including numerous MG’s and a Triumph, which he worked on restoring and maintaining. He was a member of the MG Car Club of Washington DC and the Capital Triumph Register.
Barry had many beloved dogs and cats throughout his life. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria, www.alexandriaanimals.org
