
Tax Attorney
Resident of Alexandria, Virginia, died on Sunday, December 18, 2011 at Alexandria Hospital. Mr. Fenig had a distinguished legal career, beginning with service for six years in the U.S. Senate as Tax Counsel and Legislative Director to Senator Spark Matsunaga (D-HI). During his tenure in the Senate, Mr. Fenig played a key role in the consideration and enactment of the Tax Reform Act of 1986. Subsequently he served as Vice President at several government affairs firms, where he specialized in the taxation, financial services, international trade, and benefits areas for a number of Fortune 100 and international clients. Most recently he served as Vice President of Federal Government Relations at the Equipment Leasing and Finance Association, directing and managing federal regulatory and legislative programs with the Administration and the United States Congress for the equipment leasing and finance industry. Mr. Fenig held a Bachelor of Arts degree with Distinction in Government from the University of Virginia and a law degree from the College of William and Mary where he served as Notes and Comments Editor of the William & Mary Law Review. He served as an Officer of the Federal Bar Association Taxation Section and was admitted to practice in the District of Columbia.
Mr. Fenig is survived by a sister, Mary Seymour, two brothers, Steve Fenig and Tom Fenig, and two nieces and two nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Road, Jacksonville, FL 32256. A memorial service will be held on February 4, 2012 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Mount Vernon Country Club in Alexandria, Virginia. Mr. Fenig will be interred at a later date with his parents at Arlington National Cemetery.
