Harold Schramm of Alexandria, VA passed away on March 30, 2024 at Inova Mount Vernon Hospital after a brief illness. He was 83. Born in Troy, NY on December 6,1940, Harold graduated from Cohoes High School in 1958 where he participated in sports. A music enthusiast, Harold played the trombone, piano and banjo. After high school graduation, he served honorably in the United States Army Corps of Engineers supporting the military’s mission while stationed at Fort Belvoir, VA and in Greenland. Following his military service, Harold started his civil service career with the Department of Defense. After decades of faithful service, Harold retired from civil service with the Military District of Washington. During his retirement, Harold spent 10 years working for Safeway. Harold enjoyed listening to music, traveling with his family, telling jokes and family genealogy. As an active member of Plymouth Haven Baptist Church in Alexandria, VA he served as an usher and was on the Property and Finance Committees. Preceded in death by his parents Harry E. Schramm (Doris), Estella Mink (William); siblings E. William, Sharon, David and Darlene. Harold is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Mary E. Schramm (nee Parker); his children Michael Schramm (Mary Jo) of Bohannon, VA, M. Elaina Schramm (Anthony Ferraro) of Richmond, VA and California, MD, Marsha Schramm (Dino Stauffer) of Big Piney, WY; grandchildren Christopher Schramm (Kelly) of Courtland, VA; Sarah Schramm of Front Royal, Harrison Schramm of Richmond, VA; and six great grandchildren Brianna, Ashley, Kassidy, Oaklee, Liam and Ivy. Family will receive friends at Demaine Funeral Home 520 S. Washington Street, Alexandria VA on Friday, April 5, 2024 from 5-7pm. Funeral service will be held at Plymouth Haven Baptist Church in Alexandria on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 11am. Interment to follow at Mount Comfort Cemetery in Alexandria. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation. Please, no lilies.
