Harry (Dutch) Heiney left this earth on February 18, 2017 after a courageous battle against cancer, heart failure and a stroke. Harry was born September 17, 1929 on a farm in Huntington Indiana to the parents of Samuel Levi Heiney and Avis Lannerd Heiney. He was married to Mary Virginia Reuter for 59 years, who preceded him in death. Harry attended Ball State University before enlisting in the Army. Harry was a 25 year career Army officer who served in both Korea and in Vietnam with the Corps of Engineers. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and uncle who loved playing baseball, golf and poker with his many friends. He never met a stranger and had the uncanny ability to make friends with everyone he met. He is survived by his five children, Stephanie Mitchell (Roy), of Middletown VA, Cynthia Davenport (Philip), of Raleigh NC, Douglas Heiney (Nancy), of Midlothian VA, Brian Heiney (Linda), of Dunn Loring VA, Thomas Heiney (Cheryl), of Fredericksburg VA, seven grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
Our family is appreciative of all the caring doctors, nurses and health care providers that supported our father during his illness, especially his faithful angel, Mercy Yawson.
A viewing will be held at Demaine Funeral Home in Alexandria on March 3, 2017 between 2 to 4pm and between 6 to 8pm. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Military Officers Association of America.
