

John Robert Glennie of Alexandria, VA, was born to John A. and Olive J. Glennie on January 12, 1943, in Lowell Massachusetts. He died at age 82 in Falls Church, Virginia on October 26, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
A celebration of his life will take place November 9, 2025, from 1:00 to 4:00 at the Carlyle Room, 2151 Jamieson Avenue. Alexandria, VA.
John grew up in Lowell, Massachusetts, spending time on the family boat and working in his father’s ice cream shop. He attended Keewaydin summer camp and graduated from Deerfield Academy. He attended Denison University (BA), Indiana University (MBA), and George Washington University (DBA).
His career included working as Chief Economist in Food and Drug Administration and as an economic and management consultant in areas of public policy, economic development, international management and litigation support. He taught as adjunct professor at Georgetown University Law Center and served as adjunct and full-time faculty in US graduate schools of business.
He was an avid traveler, always excited to see different places and to meet new people. He and his wife Hui, traveled extensively in Asia and Europe. Much of his work was internationally based in places including Hong Kong, Taiwan, Southeast Asian countries, Romania, Greece, Sri Lanka, and Egypt. When his children were young, he took them to many American cities, and he spent time in Scotland with each of them.
In retirement, he enjoyed having fun with family and riding his bike. He was an avid reader, enjoying fiction, history, and travelogues. He was an active volunteer for various organizations including his homeowner association.
He is survived by his wife, Hui Lian Glennie, his children Elizabeth Glennie (Gerry O’Neill), Justina Glavin (Brendan Glavin), and Reid Glennie (Christina Peterson) and his grandchildren Conor Glavin, Liam Glavin, and Danny O’Neill.
