John Edward Prevar passed away on February 23, 2026. Born in Washington, D.C., John was raised in Maryland alongside his brother, Dave. From an early age, he developed a deep appreciation for literature. After earning his Master’s degree in English, he enlisted in the United States Navy during the Vietnam era. He served his country with distinction, ultimately retiring with the rank of Commander.
Following his military career, John began a second chapter in public service with the federal government, continuing his commitment to the nation he valued so deeply.
John was a dedicated professional who took pride in his work and was held in high regard by his colleagues. He was known for offering guidance and support to others, always willing to help those seeking to advance in their careers.
In December 1982, John married Pamela in Australia. He was a devoted and loving husband and a caring stepfather to Franz.
Outside of his professional life, John was a lifelong enthusiast of Prince Valiant , classical music, and opera.
He will be deeply missed and loved forever.
