Manuel Asesor was born on June 23, 1933 in Janiuay, Iloilo, Philippines. After earning a degree of Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from the University of the Philippines – Los Baños, Laguna, Philippines, he taught at Negros Occidental National Agricultural School, now known as Central Phillippines State University. It is there that he met and married the former Flor Rosete Mata. Soon after their daughter's birth, he and his wife accepted teaching positions at the newly established Eastern Pangasinan Agricultural School close to his wife's hometown. Manuel and his wife taught there until they both received the opportunity to serve as professors when the school established its 2-year and 4-year collegiate curriculum and was renamed Eastern Pangasinan Agricultural College (EPAC). On July 15, 1979, Manuel immigrated to the United States, leaving behind a job he dearly loved for 28 years.
Manuel arrived in Sioux City, Iowa, with his family, where he and his wife resided for 28 years. Manuel worked for Iowa Beef Processors, now known as Tysons Food, retiring after 20 years. After retirement, he also worked for Region IV Services, which provides housing for developmentally and physically disabled adults to help them live independent lives. He also worked for Better Homes and Gardens and, subsequently, for Earl May Garden Center, where he performed what he most enjoyed: Gardening. Eventually, in the summer of 2007, He and his wife moved to Alexandria, Virginia, to be closer to their three young granddaughters.
Manuel was an avid gardener. He loved spending time outside tending to the assortment of rose plants he and his wife had planted soon after moving in with their son in Alexandria, VA. Manuel showed his family love and devotion over the years. He was a devoted husband to his wife of 49 years. When his wife passed away, he turned that devotion towards his grandchildren. Manuel loved and took good care of his grandchildren, Corey, Brittany, Anna, Christina and Gabriella. He always attended all extra-curricular events for his grandchildren, whether sporting events or dance recitals. He was always there for them, cheering them on or taking pictures or videos.
