Mickey was born in Rochester, NY to Eleanor (nee Maloney) and Michael James Hogan. He graduated from St. John Fisher University and began his career in the U.S. Army, which took Mickey and his family all over the United States and the world. A decorated Officer, Mickey received many commendations throughout his career, including a Bronze Star for his wartime service during Operation Desert Storm (though humble to his core, he never trumpeted his successes). Mickey retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years. After his Army service, his entrepreneurial spirit brought him into sales, teaching, and the insurance industry–Mickey never stopped learning and taking on new roles.
Mickey was always involved in the lives of his family and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. An avid Yankees fan, Mickey taught his children how to track baseball stats and know how to call a ball or a strike. He was a talented singer and world-class whistler. He was a friend to all and never met a stranger. Mickey was dedicated to his faith and exemplified the values of love, kindness, and charity–he was always willing to help anyone in need.
Mickey is survived by his beloved children: Kristin Schildwachter (Eric), Erin Hogan (Michael), Michael Hogan (Teresa), Megan O’Kane (Matthew), and their mother, Susan Ainsworth-Smaha (Herbert); his twin brother John “Jack” Hogan (Helen); grandchildren Martin, Eleanor, Nina, Riley, Brennan, Avery, Reid, Wade, John, Anna, and Kathryn; nieces Emily, Cassandra and nephews Neal and Dylan (Lauren).
He is preceded in death by his mother Eleanor and father Michael, and several dear aunts and uncles.
Mickey’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to his incredible home health aides at ComForCare who went above and beyond every day to care for Mickey. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
