Born May 21, 1932, in Lodz, Poland to Walter Rober Toepffer and Joan Gampe Toepffer, Peter, his parents and brother, Carroll, immigrated to the United States following WWII, settling in Richmond, VA. After his service in the U.S. Army, Pete’s career in government affairs with 3M took him and his family to Alexandria, VA, Puerto Rico and back to Alexandria. The latter part of his career was fondly spent with colleagues and friends at Moors & Cabot.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Gregory Toepffer; three daughters, Layne Kerr of Alexandria, Anna Eckel of Raleigh, NC and Maggie Behringer of Alexandria; as well as seven grandchildren.
To his family he was more than just a husband, father and Poppi, but also the biggest cheerleader and the utmost example of a true gentleman. A calming and reassuring presence, Pete was always waiting with a smile, kind words and ready to discuss any subject in great depth from world history, to current events to the state of the Washington football franchise. He was a friend to all and his warm presence along with wise insights will be fondly remembered and greatly missed.
A private funeral service will be held at Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, VA on November 29, 2023.
