(Age 80)
A much loved and admired father, grandfather and friend, Robin passed peacefully into eternal life on July 8, 2013.
Born on November 22, 1932 in Estoril, Portugal, Robin grew up in Scarborough, NY and lived in the Washington, D.C. area for more than 50 years. He attended Phillips Academy Andover and graduated from Harvard College in 1954. After service as a Naval officer, he earned his Juris Doctorate from the Harvard Law School, where he was an editor of the Harvard Law Review. A lawyer and author, Robin served as a law clerk to Supreme Court Justices Felix Frankfurter and John Marshall Harlen. He practiced law with the Wall Street firm of Clearly, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton before turning to a career in public service and foreign diplomacy.
Robin’s spiritual life was fortified by daily prayer and meditation, a devotion to St. John’s Episcopal Church on Lafayette Square, involvement in various fellowships, and a passion for religious inquiry, history, literature, poetry and the performing arts. A natural athlete, Robin played rugby in college, and enjoyed tennis, hiking and skiing into his later years. Although he never fully recovered from losing his beloved Brooklyn Dodgers to Los Angeles, Robin was an avid Redskins fan and was among the faithful who cheered the renaissance of baseball in the Nation’s Capitol.
Robin is survived by his four children: Cynthia Homet Baumann of Fairfield, CT, Adrienne Homet Hand of Bethesda, MD, Brian Charles Homet of Herndon, VA and Jennifer Homet Catto of Carbondale, CO; 9 grandchildren; his former wife Sarah Chappell Milam, and many friends.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 22nd at St. John’s Episcopal Church,
1525 H Street N.W., Washington, D.C., at 10:30 a.m.
