

Dr. Thomas Hamlin Gresinger of Flint Hill, VA passed away Friday, April 22, 2016 at the age of 82. After a battle with cancer, he died peacefully surrounded by his wife and children at a family residence along the Potomac.
Tom Gresinger was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 14, 1933 and raised in Cleveland, Ohio by adoptive parents, Helen P. Gresinger and Hamlin L. Gresinger. He attended the Hotchkiss School (Class of ’51) and received a degree in literature from Williams College (class of ’55). His service as a medic during the Korean War sparked an interest in medicine. He received a medical degree from The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences in 1961 and worked as an Obstetrician and Gynecologist for more than 50 years. A steadfast proponent of women’s reproductive rights, Dr. Gresinger was honored in 2013 by the National Abortion Federation (NAF) with the C. Lalor Burdick “Unsung Hero” award.
Dr. Gresinger is survived by his wife Sheila, daughters Victoria LaPointe (Josh LaPointe) and Anne Gresinger (Paul Balzer), sons Thomas Gresinger (Jennifer) and Robert Gresinger (Amy), stepchildren Christopher Floyd, Peter Brunelli, Brigid Brunelli, Michael Brunelli, Patricia Stronko, and Deborah Nast, and numerous grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Thursday April 28th from 6 to 8 pm at Demaine Funeral Home, 520 South Washington Street, Alexandria, VA 22314. A celebration of his life will be held at Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church, 228 South Pitt St, Alexandria, VA 22314 at 11 am Friday, April 29th. There will be a small gathering at the church afterword, followed by a private burial. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made to Carpenter’s Shelter at 930 N.
