Timothy Charles Dole

Timothy Charles Dole, 62, of Alexandria, Virginia passed away unexpectedly on February 1st, 2025. Tim was born on February 7th, 1962 in Pembroke, NH to Sumner A. Dole Jr. and Rebecca Henry Dole. His family moved to Brookhaven, NY, then Lebanon, OH, and finally Falls Church, VA for his father’s work with US Fish and Wildlife. Tim graduated from Yorktown High School in Arlington, VA in 1980. He graduated from Virginia Tech in 1984 with a degree in biology and went on to have a distinguished career working as an Industrial Hygienist (workplace safety expert) with the federal government, first at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, then at the National Naval Medical Center supporting the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Indian Head, Maryland, the Naval Research Lab and the Washington Navy Yard. He spent the last 25 years of his career at the Office of Pesticide Programs at the US Environmental Protection Agency. He was a well-liked and respected colleague and mentor to those who consulted him for his scientific knowledge and expertise.

Tim was an enthusiastic kayaker. He enjoyed many daylong and weekend paddling trips around the DC area, Southport, NC, and winter trips to Florida with friends who will miss his particular sense of humor. He enjoyed most things outdoors including biking, hiking, and camping, especially in Dolly Sods, Shenandoah National Park, Great Falls Park (VA), and NH.

Tim loved travelling to visit his family in NH and WA. Kayaking and hiking with his siblings and nieces was always a top priority, as well as spending time at “the camp” in Pembroke, NH and family land in East Washington, NH. He enjoyed having his family visit him in D.C. as well, especially his nieces in their childhood as he escorted the family to all the sights, his favorite being the National Zoo. He gave devoted care to his parents in their final years. He loved cats, especially his cat Earl. Everything Tim loved could be seen in his photographs. When Tim didn’t have a paddle in his hands, he had his camera.

Tim was preceded in death by his parents, Sumner A. Dole Jr. and Rebecca Dole; and his brother Sumner A. Dole III, as well as his cat Earl. He is survived by his sister Lisbeth Mills (Scott Mills) of Lacey, WA, his brother Robert Dole of Bridgewater, ME, his sister-in-law Kathy Dole of Canterbury, NH, his nieces Rebecca Yohe, Kathleen Bartholomew, Molly Soucy, and many grandnephews and grandnieces.
