Warren grew up in Sea Cliff, Long Island, New York. He was a WWII veteran and afterwards attended Adelphi College, where he met Joan P. Treuer, the love of his life. After college, Warren attended seminary and Joan went to medical school. Warren served for twenty-four years (active duty) as a chaplain in the U.S. Army. After retiring in 1997, his pastoral ministry branched into working as a nursing home counselor and consultant (1980-94), abuse counselor (1994-96), and hospital chaplain (2006-09). A lifelong scholar, Warren earned a Doctor of Ministry degree at Princeton Theological Seminary in 1986, adding to his Master’s Degrees in Theology, Divinity, and Psychology. He also studied clinical pastoral education at the Lutheran and Walter Reed Medical Centers and pastoral psychotherapy at the Pastoral Counseling and Consultation Centers of Greater Washington (D.C.).
Warren was an active member of Alexandria Monthly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends for over thirty years, and served in various capacities including teaching some of the Adult Religious Education classes. Warren was eventually asked to compile his lessons into book form. He agreed, and in 2014 he published “Reflections of a Quaker: A Blank Slate Theology.” The book explores many topics from science to philosophy in his journey for spiritual understanding. All financial proceeds from the sale of his book are donated to The American Friends Service Committee, one of Warren’s favorite charities.
Warren and Joan had three children (Stephen, Philip, and Susan) and seven grandchildren.
