Catherine (Kay) A. McClure, a/k/a “Grandma”. Kay was born in Cleveland, 11/7/1919, and was the youngest of 5 children, who have all predeceased her. Having survived cancer three times before, she finally succumbed to the latest bout on 6/4/14. She was able to remain in her Orlando home of 52 years until the end. Kay moved to D.C. in 1944 with her husband, Charles Rogers (“Mac”) McClure (1913-1980), and helped him for many years with his gun and antique businesses. During those years, they befriended many people in need and she remained life-long friends with some of them. They moved to Orlando in 1961 and opened Hobby shops in Orlando and Titusville, where they continued to help others who needed it. After her husband passed, Kay worked at Hughes Supply and retired from there after 10 years tenure due to advancing blindness. However, she always stayed active and her “doors were always open” to anyone who needed a place to stay or a warm meal. She was known to everyone as “Grandma” and she was always ready to dole out her special brand of advice. In her time on this earth, she touched and affected many lives in ways she didn’t even realize-she will be sorely missed. Kay is survived by her son, William J. (Africa), and her daughter, Sharon Trent (Orlando). Her younger daughter, Mary Ellen, passed away in 2009. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren, 3 great granddaughters, and 4 great-great grandchildren. Services will be held at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church, 7500 Forest City Rd., (Orlando) on Saturday, June 14 at 9:30am with interment at Highland Memory Gardens following the service. Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home, West Altamonte Chapel, 994 Weathersfield Ave., Altamonte Springs, FL. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Hospice of the Comforter, Altamonte Springs, FL.
